New Tropical Vet Science Degree – James Cook University

James Cook University’s School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences has unveiled a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree to be offered at its’ Townsville campus from 2006.

This programme will teach students the skills and knowledge to diagnose, treat and prevent disease in a wide range of animals.

The degree specialises in tropical animal husbandry and aquaculture which are core to the curriculum.

The final year is practical in nature with clinical and professional training and graduates will be eligible for registration as veterinarians.

This degree offering has been boosted by JCU’s strengths in microbiology and medicine and the research expertise of over 40 academic staff in fields such as tropical animal science, veterinary science, medical labaratory science, applied microbiology and food microbiology.

The Townsville campus has scope for applying the practical elements of the degree with assets such as livestock in paddocks and yards.
