Student guardian requirements
Student guardians must meet the:
- General requirements for a student visa.
See: General requirements
Exception: student guardians must arrange for overseas visitor health cover (OVHC), not overseas student health cover (OSHC).
See: Cover for People from Overseas
- Financial requirements related to the nominating student.
See: Financial requirements
In addition:
- A person who has a dependent child under 6 years of age is only able to be granted a student guardian visa if:
- the child under 6 would be subject to assessment level 1 or 2 for a Schools Sector visa
See: Subclasses and Assessment Levels; and - there are compassionate and compelling reasons for granting the visa
- A student guardian may only include a child in their visa application in very limited circumstances. To be granted a student guardian visa as a family member, the child must be:
- under 6 years of age; and
- hold a passport that would make them subject to assessment level 1 or 2 for a Schools Sector visa.
There must also be compassionate and compelling reasons for granting the visa. Other family members cannot be granted a student guardian visa.
- If you intend to be the student guardian of more than one student while in Australia, you must notify the department (when you apply) which student you would like your visa linked to.
