Macquarie University Information

Macquarie University Sydney - Master Degree - LLM

The Macquarie University offers four different Master-degrees in the
Law-area :

  • Master of Commercial Law
  • Master of International Environmental Law
  • Master of International Trade and Commerce Law
  • Master of Laws in International Environmental Law

For Law-students from Germany the best program is the last one. If they have finished their Law-studies in Germany with the First State Exam only the last program might have an advanced level in law. It requires also an undergraduate Law- degree.

The other three programs are more general, do not require a Law- degree, and the level might not be high enough for students with a Law-degree.

The,, Master of Laws in International Environmental Law" - program is a research-program. The website of the University does not tell us much about the certain conditions of the studies, but it might be the same like research-programs at other universities. The student will work under a supervisor and doing a research in a Law-area he has chosen by himself.

The program takes one year and the student can start every march or july.

The tuition-fee per year for the program is 18, 400 Australian Dollars.

To do this Master-program is very interesting for students who like to work individual when they do a research, and if they are already specialised in Environmental - Law.

E-learning Centre

Macquarie receives $2.9m in Australian research collaboration

Two brilliant systems have been designed by Macquarie University that seek to enhance research collaboration across the Australian research sector.

The Macquarie E-learning Centre of Excellence (MELCOE) designed the Meta Access Management System (MAMS) to assist in cross-institutional communication in a reliable and secure manner.

In a parallel development, MELCOE developed the Learning Activity Management System (LAMS) that now has over 1500 users across 85 countries and has been translated into 17 languages.

These two systems are part of the Federal government's Systematic Infrastructure Initiative, itself a part of Backing Australia's Ability. The two systems receive a combined $15million to further combined research collaboration. It is envisaged that these two systems will tackle the two obstacles to effective communication - sharing information and structuring collaborative tasks across organisations.

The LAMS system is a first step towards sharing electronic information securely across different organisations with competing interests.
