Overview

TAFE NSW Illwarra Institute offers a variety of courses as varied as the settings of its campuses. From general education and training to specialist courses the TAFE can cater for every requirement – this is the main asset of Illawarra Institute. Location

This TAFE covers a diverse area which ranges from the city of Wollongong in the North along the South Coast and all the way to Bega and the Snowy Mountains.
Spectacular beaches with good surf meet tranquil bays while the hinterland boasts ancient rainforest and rolling hills. The rugged region of the Australian Alps offers a unique alpine landscape and also features the country’s highest mountain, Mt. Kosciuszko at 2.228 metres.

Campuses

The 14 campuses of Illarwarra Institute are located in the following towns of south-eastern New South Wales:

The main campus is Wollongong while the other locations vary in size and facilities. The conveniences include computer laboratories, libraries and canteens just to name a few. All amenities aim at generating a friendly and productive learning atmosphere for the students.

Accomodation

Chisholm Residence is the name of the student accommodation at Goulburn Campus. There are single-room available as well as a fully equipped communal kitchen and laundry facilities.

Entry Requirements

These may vary from course to course. In general, it is necessary to provide a school education that is the equivalent to the Australian years 10-12 with passes in English. Furthermore, enrolment at TAFE NSW requires a minimum level of English language skills (equivalent of IELTS academic version min. of 5.5).

Student Activities

Wollongong offers all the comforts of a modern city – however those looking for “something special” will find Sydney only an hours train ride away.
Beside that the Illawarra region has a lot to do, especially if you like the outdoors. All sorts of water-based activities are possible along the magnificent coastline. Countless beaches invite the sun seeker. Hyams Beach is even reported to have the whitest sand in the whole world.

In the Snowy Mountains hiking and biking are big in summer. During the colder time of the year (July to September) the slopes are calling.
