The Couch - International Student Centre Melbourne*

As of Monday 15 March 2010, The Couch - International Student Centre is reopening its doors to students.

Run by the Salvation Army, City of Melbourne and the Australian of Federation Students, The Couch:

* provides a safe, non-commercial lounge space for international students,
* allows students to access support services and information,
* provides affordable meals at cost price to students,
* creates an environment where students can engage, socialise and interact and
* facilitates cultural exchange between local young people and international students though social activities such as footy nights, movie sessions and other activities held within the centre.

*New Couch Coordinator - Peter Hichaaba*

Peter was a teacher in Zambia. Recently, he has completed a Diploma of Community Welfare Work. While he was completing the Diploma, he was an assistant at the Salvation Army Project 614 LifeCentre. He has been a volunteer for St. Vincent De Paul's Soup Van for a number of years. He was also a facilitator and trainer in BCP (Behaviour Change Program) in Zambia for young people about HIV/AIDS. Not only he is a sport person (soccer and volleyball), he is also a musical person! He enjoys playing traditional African drums and singing! With his background and experience, it is delighted to have Peter to be part of this mission to serve the student community! We are all looking forward to working with Peter on the Couch.

Located at 69 Bourke St Melbourne, the Couch is open to students on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 5pm-9pm.
