About ECU
Edith Cowan University (ECU) is located in Perth, Western Australia and prepares its students to become leaders in service related professions. ECU had its humble origins as a teaching college and since then it has grown to become Australia's second largest university with around 23,000 students. The university has three metropolitan campuses - Churchlands, Mount Lawley and Joondalup with a regional campus in Bunbury.

Joondalup
This campus is in close proximity to rail transport and Perth's major highway. The campus boasts state of the art facilities and offers on-campus rental accommodation to international students.

Mount Lawley
Less than a minute from the Perth CBD, this campus offers international students access to state of the art sporting and recreation facilities as well as on-campus accommodation.

Churchlands
Located a few minutes from the Perth CBD, this campus is close to public transport. International students should note that courses offered at this campus are steadily decreasing as they move to Joondalup and Mount Lawley. Rental accommodation is available in neighbouring suburbs.

Bunbury
This campus is a two hour drive from Perth; Bunbury is the largest campus outside of the metropolitan area. The campus has modern facilities as it is part of an educational precinct and also has a housing complex.

ECU International Perspective
Edith Cowan University aims to a leading provider of higher education to international

capitalised on this fact to offer offshore courses and internationalise the curriculum at
the same time. Over 1,800 students from over 30 countries choose to study at ECU and the university is also a member of several international university networks.

ECU Application Procedure for International Students
Applicants may apply directly or through an agent such as the AA Education Network. There
is no application fee for doing so.

Step 1 - Lodge an application

The following documents are required for the application to be considered:

  • The completed application form
  • Evidence of English language proficiency
  • Certified copies of academic results to date

International students are advised to apply early as the 30th November deadline is for commencement in February while 31st March is the cut-off date for the July intake. Late applications may still be considered at the discretion of the university.

Step 2 - Accept the offer of a place

Successful applicants will receive a Letter of Offer stating:

  • The course details, tuition fees, OSHC fees, course commencement date, orientation information, course duration and campus location
  • Any conditions that need to be met for a conditional offer
  • The fees and refund policy
  • Information about ECU International Student Services
  • A provisional letter of offer may be issued when certain pre-requisite subjects need to be met.
  • A final letter of offer will be issued after the university is satisfied that the applicant has met all the English language or academic entry requirements.

Step 3 - Acceptance of offer and sealing of contract

To accept the offer, the applicant must pay the first semester?s tuition fees with the
OSHC fees.

Step 4 - Confirmation of Enrolment

Upon fulfilling step 3, the
university will issue the student a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) and once this is provided to the Australian embassy or a diplomatic mission, a student visa will be issued.
Step 5 - Apply for a student visa

The student must provide evidence of funds to support himself/herself and their
dependents while in Australia. The student must also comply with all health regulations.

The AA Education Network provides free assistance throughout the visa application
procedure.

Step 6 - Prepare for departure

International students at this stage must make their final arrangements for departure and inform the University of their Travel Plans. The student must also notify ECU International of his/her intention to bring school-age children to Australia.

Student Visas - Important information

International students require a student visa to study in Australia and this means that they can only choose to study on a full-time basis. ECU is under obligation to report any international student not attending classes or making satisfactory progress in his/her studies to the Department of Immigration & Multicultural Affairs (DIMA).

Study in Australia - English Requirement

Students should have sufficient English language ability for the courses in which they enrol. Otherwise, English language courses are offered to international students who may have difficulty meeting this requirement.

Western Australia Certification

The Curriculum Council of Western Australia issues the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) to graduating secondary students.

Overseas Student Health Cover

International students are required to take OSHC for the duration of their stay in Australia. This health fund is funded by Medibank Private, a privately run health insurance fund.

Accommodation

Government run schools do not have boarding facilities but the schools can arrange for a home stay program for their students.
