Central Queensland University Sydney Abgänger Kamran Pasha (Master of IT) erzählt von seiner Arbeit.

CQU Sydney graduate powers to Energy Australia role

Another successful IT graduate of CQUniversity Sydney, Kamran Pasha has lost no time carving out his future career path.

He completed a Master of Information Technology (MIT) with CQUniversity and began working with Security International Services as a technology support officer in 2007.

Kamran was asked about the practical training he received while studying for his MIT at the Sydney Campus.

"The most important thing I learned at CQUniversity was documentation and researching techniques," he says.

"During my E-Commerce project with Dr Ergun Gide, I learned how to conduct a comprehensive technical research, WIS development, and writing documentation including addressing issues and solutions."

In June 2008, Kamran had further success in the IT labour market. He joined a bigger employer - this time as an analyst and developer with the energy retail company EnergyAustralia, which employs more than 6000 staff.

Kamran is chiefly responsible for analysing and improving the different types of computer applications used by EnergyAustralia and supports its senior management team with documented information.

As an employee of a big company, Kamran has access to in-house training and employee development programs. He has been quick to take advantage of these job training opportunities and the company's commitment to investing in the technical skills of its employees.

With access to continuing training resources he has been able to upgrade his knowledge and project management skills. This has enabled Kamran to ‘keep in touch with new technologies' and develop a competitive employment edge in a very dynamic industry.

He recalls his days of learning and studying at CQUniversity Sydney were "full of challenges, joy and happiness".

The hard work and dedication he devoted to his studies did not go unacknowledged. In his final semester of study for his MIT, Kamran became the proud recipient of the Dean's Letter of Commendation.

Student outcomes that are among the best in Australia

CQUniversity is the only University in Australia to achieve five star ratings in the Good Universities Guide for both Graduate Starting Salaries (the only public university in Queensland to do so) and student Access.

The editors of the Guide, Australia's only Degree and University Ratings, have also awarded CQUniversity 4 or 5 star ratings - the highest outcomes possible - for Positive Graduate Outcomes for the last nine years and, since 2000, Guide researchers have given us the highest rating among all public universities in Queensland for Graduate Starting Salaries.

In addition, the editors say that CQUniversity is "always developing new ways to ensure its students achieve their individual goals - no matter where or how they study or what path they followed to reach university." According to the Guide's Special Report on CQUniversity "few universities can say that they can interact in a customised way to a student's requirements. CQUniversity can."

CQUniversity has become an approved provider of the Australian Computer Society Professional Year Program in Computer Science, which is available for international students who wish to gain permanent residency in Australia

Uni approved provider of professional year program

The new program combines formal learning and workplace experience and is designed under guidelines developed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

CQUniversity Australia is also submitting an application to deliver the Skilled Migration Internship Program - Accounting in conjunction with CPA Australia, Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the National Institute of Accountants (SMIPA).

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship says a Professional Year will:

  • familiarise participants with the norms and values in the Australian workplaces as well as the Australian employment market and workplace culture;
  • teach participants how to communicate effectively and professionally in the Australian workplace with colleagues, managers and clients ;
  • include an internship (work experience) to educate participants about all aspects of work practices in an Australian company.

Completion of a recognised Professional Year will provide that person 10 bonus points under the General Skilled Migration points test.
